Raequel Picard is a Wildlife Technician and Fish & Wildlife Commissioner for the Nimiipuu (Nez Perce) Tribe in Idaho, pursuing a master’s degree in Natural Resources and Society at the University of Idaho. Her research centers on restoring and strengthening Nimiipuu relationships with American bison (qoq’áalx) through Indigenous-led conservation planning and Traditional Ecological Knowledge. She also aims to address emerging wildlife health challenges affecting bison and other ungulate species important to tribal communities, including deer, elk, and moose. Through her work, she hopes to advance Tribal stewardship, food sovereignty, and the long-term resilience of wildlife across Nimiipuu homelands.
She was nominated by Dr. Shanara “Shanny” Spang Gion, Assistant Professor at the University of Idaho.
