Leandre is the National Research Coordinator at the Centre de Recherche en Sciences Naturelles in the Democratic Republic of Congo. His work focuses on advancing evidence-based approaches in global health and infectious disease research. His work focuses on understanding zoonotic disease risks at the human-wildlife interface, particularly in transmission from humans to great apes in landscapes surrounding protected areas. He is pursuing a PhD in Wildlife Epidemiology and Disease Control through Universidad de Castilla-La Mancha & CSIC. His research investigates the transmission dynamics of Mpox in eastern DRC, using advanced molecular and sequencing technologies to better understand how the disease spreads between humans, wildlife, and other potential animal reservoirs. With a focus on protecting Grauer’s gorillas and chimpanzees, Leandre’s work aims to strengthen disease surveillance and inform strategies that reduce the risk of zoonotic disease transmission in conservation landscapes.
He was nominated by Prof. Christian Gortázar, Professor at IREC–Universidad de Castilla-La Mancha.
Awarded the Veterinary Scholarship.
