Xiaotong Cai is a PhD student at the University of Oxford researching changes in the supply and demand of saiga horn following recent population recovery to prevent renewed exploitation pressure on the species. Through saiga horn market market trends analyses and predictive modeling, she aims to better understand the relationship between conservation policy, consumer behavior, and illegal wildlife trade. Her long-term goal is to develop globally relevant conservation approaches that reduce exploitation risks for traded wildlife species.
She was nominated by Professor E.J. Milner-Gulland, Chair of the Saiga Conservation Alliance, a WCN partner.
Awarded the WCN Standard Scholarship.
