Chungla Sherpa is a PhD student in Ecology at Lincoln University in New Zealand. Growing up in the Sherpa community of the Himalayas, Chungla’s interest in conservation was inspired by the desire to carry on the legacy of her late father, who was a conservation pioneer for Nepal’s Kanchenjunga Conservation Area. Her thesis aims to generate climate-resilient, village-level conservation and conflict mitigation plans for snow leopards and mountain communities by combining traditional ecological knowledge and scientific data. She previously served as an officer for the Forest Research and Training Centre in Nepal.

She was nominated by Sonam Tashi Lama, Conservation Program Manager at Red Panda Network.

Awarded the Pat J. Miller Scholarship for Wildlife Conservation
