Ryan Masayesva is a Master’s student in Environmental Biology at the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry. His research supports the Heiltsuk Nation, a group of Canadian Indigenous tribes based in British Columbia’s Central Coast, in developing Indigenous-led management plans for a conserved area in their territory. His work focuses on wolves inhabiting remote islands, using genetic analysis to assess the health and connectivity of isolated populations. By combining Indigenous stewardship principles with ecological research, Ryan aims to strengthen long-term conservation planning and support Indigenous leadership in carnivore conservation.
