Daniel is a wildlife veterinarian committed to protecting one of Brazil’s most endangered primate species, the black lion tamarin. As part of the Black-Lion-Tamarin Conservation Project at IPÊ – Instituto de Pesquisas Ecológicas (Institute for Ecological Research), Daniel plays a vital role in safeguarding this rare primate through hands-on veterinary care, field research, and conservation initiatives. His scholarship supports his PhD at São Paulo State University, where he is conducting an epidemiological analysis of black lion tamarin populations. His studies will explore critical health threats such as yellow fever, leishmaniasis, and toxoplasmosis. Through his research, Daniel aims to develop strategies that reduce wildlife health risks associated with translocations and reintroductions, population management strategies critical for maintaining the genetic viability of small isolated populations.

He was nominated by Dr. Gabriela Rezende, Whitley Award Winner.

Awarded a Veterinary Scholarship.
