Lucas is the Senior Research Officer at Cheetah Conservation Botswana. He leads biodiversity data collection and analysis to protect key species in the Kalahari Game Reserve. With the support of this scholarship, Lucas is pursuing a master’s program at Tarleton State University, where his research will focus on studying population densities of duiker and steenbok, critical prey species for cheetahs, leopards, and painted dogs. His work will bridge traditional ecological knowledge with modern conservation science, providing new insights into sustainable wildlife management. His vision is to foster a strong conservation culture in Botswana by empowering local communities to take pride in their wildlife heritage.
