The yellow-tailed woolly monkey is the largest animal endemic to Perú, weighing up to 22 pounds. These monkeys live in rich social groups of 20-30 individuals. They are found only in Perú’s montane forests, a habitat that has had 80% of its landscape destroyed by human activities, causing these monkeys to be designated as Critically Endangered. Yunkawasi works with Amazonian and Andean communities to conserve the yellow-tailed woolly monkey and other threatened species through sustainable economic development, education, and a protected area management approach.
